Web Scraping with Python

Started a new course on Stackskills.com https://stackskills.com/courses/enrolled/509575

Learn how to capture data from the web by scraping websites using Python and BeautifulSoup.

Gathering data from a web page is known as web scraping, and is typically performed either by fetching web page via URL and reading the data directly online, or by reading the data from a saved HTML file. Understanding web scraping is a skill crucial to anyone interested in data science or those just looking to obtain information from web pages.

Pycnogenol is amazing

I was shopping at Costco a few weeks ago and noticed a new product in their stores.

Pycnogenol
The preliminary evidence at this point in time (promising and independent, but limited) support the usage of pycnogenol in reducing all symptoms of osteoarthritis, reaching up to a halving of symptoms but requiring 90 days for effects to occur

It's one of the key ingredients of my nootropic and nutritional stack, check out my article here

Nootropics are drugs, supplements, and other substances that may improve cognitive function, particularly executive functions, memory, creativity, or motivation, in healthy individuals. Wikipediav

How I lost 40 pounds with this stack!

I was 196 pounds in Nov 2018 - in April 2019 I was 156!

5 months is all it took to get my BMI from 28.12 to 22.81!

So I've gotten a lot of questions both at work and just when I'm hanging out.

"How did you loose so much weight?"
and
"What's your secret? You look totaly different"

I tell everyone that I simply made a few changes and stuck with them and over time the results are clear.

By combining my powerful nootropic stack with a big change of not going to McDonald's for breakfast being the only major change. Instead, I would have a banana and (high protein) Greek yogurt.

The Stack

  1. D, L-Phenylalanine (500mg - up to 3 times a day)
  2. Fish Oil (1000mg DHA/DHA - up to 3 times a day)
  3. Acetyl-L-Carnitine (500mg - up to 3 times a day)
  4. alpha-Lipoic Acid (200mg - up to 3 times a day)
  5. Sulbutiamine (200mg - up to 3 times a day)
  6. N-Acetyl Tyrosine (350mg - up to 3 times a day)
  7. Pycnogenol (50mg - up to 3 times a day)
  8. and more

Nootropics

I've found a few great websites for reading professional medical information when it comes to Supplements and Nootropics.

The reason I decided to make this blog post is that it has personally helped me and I wanted to share my experience with others. In the hope that they may find some benefit as well.

How to hide your personal data from search engines

As some of you might know, everything you type into the search bar is saved and analyzed for advertising. But one way to fight the system is to overload the algorithms by sending tons and tons of "random" data that confuses the search engines.

- Using this tool won't really ruin your search history. It will modify it with randomized queries.

I've used this a few times and it was an interesting experience to learn more about info security. I would recommend.

My Robinhood Experience

I never wanted to become an investor. I did not have positive feelings about Wall Street or the people who work there. But after seeing how the banking system screwed my parents over I got involved.

As some of you might know I've started investing on my own. No Brokers, No Fee's...

My only experience before this has been funding my 401k and helping my parents with their investments.

I downloaded and installed Robinhood on May 18, 2017.  I started my account with 500 bucks.

I've bought primarily 3 stocks so far.

  1. AMD (Advanced Micro Devices)
  2. GE (General Electric Company)
  3. MU (Micron Technology)
AMD, Micron MU and GE
I still recommend AMD as a buy and same with MU.

Google Tone grants ability to talk

Google Tone turns on your computer's microphone on and uses your computer's speakers to exchange information like URLs with nearby computers connected to the Internet. The only thing keeping this tool from being a true game changer is it is not compatible yet with mobile devices but once it is available for iOS & Android this tool goes straight to being a potential Blockbuster!

This could allow quicker incident response times by allowing IT staff to bypass normal means of communication like email and when needed to be able to instantly communicate with all other devices around them simultaneously.  this is really helpful because it is not dependent on standard channels of communication that are unfortunately dependent on  Legacy infrastructures like phone lines or even Wi-Fi signals.  Because this tool works when everything else is down or hijacked by malicious attacker IT staff could theoretically push a fix to all devices via sound waves.

Will China Stop Polluting the World?

My point of view starts by asking the question, “Does pollution from China impact the World Today?” And if Yes, then by how much?
I remember the day I really first made the big connection between human pollution and the risk it puts all living creatures under. On the radio, I heard about 400 (four hundred whales) committed suicide by beaching themselves in New Zealand, and again in my own backyard over 4000 birds die in the Yolo Bypass … That’s when I had a light bulb moment, it’s Climate Change! That’s why I feel compelled to do more research.
My instincts tell me it’s the (continued) irresponsible and dangerous behavior of large developing nations. Yes, America had its time of industrialization, but we have learned from the past. Other developing nations do not have that luxury and so justify dumping chemicals directly into rivers, soil, and the ocean.
  1. 500 Million People in China are without safe and clean drinking water.
  2. A Large section of the ocean is without marine life because of massive algal blooms caused by the high synthetic nutrients in the water.
  3. The quality of surface water in the south of China was improving and particle emissions were stable. But NO2 emissions were increasing rapidly and SO2 emissions had been increasing before decreasing in 2007, the last year for which data was available.[10]
  4. A survey of 878 rivers in the early 1980s shows that 80 per cent of them were polluted to some extent, and fishes became extinct in more than 5 percent of total river length throughout the country. Furthermore, there are over 20 waterways unsuitable for agricultural irrigation due to water pollution.[12]
  5. Telegraph reported a case of an 8-year-old girl who had contracted lung cancer, becoming the youngest victim of lung cancer in China.[15]
  6. Lung cancer was two to three times more common in cities than in the countryside despite similar rates of tobacco smoking. Zhong
  7. Measurements in January 2013 showed that levels of air pollution, as measured by the density of particulate matter smaller than 2.5 micrometers in size, were beyond index – higher than the maximum 755 μg the US Embassy’s equipment can measure.[17]
  8. Smog from mainland China has been observed to reach as far as California.[18]
We all live on the Planet Earth. We are all interconnected, we can no longer repress the fact that Chinese pollution affects all of us. “To get some perspective on how irrelevant [the] EPA’s plan is… a full year’s worth of[U.S.] annual reductions in 2025 would be offset by Chines emission in just three weeks. ” – Charles D. McConnell Executive Director at Energy & Environmental Initiative, Rice University said.
